Maybelline-to fit or not to fit?

It’s quite daunting walking into Boots, with the array of offers on cosmetics, huge advertisements and clean layout one can almost be consumed by all the lights and 3 for 2 offers which means the essential items fall by the wayside and before you know it you’ve purchased a basket of cosmetics which you hope you will use! Over my next few blogs I will be breaking down the drugstore essentials for your make up bag.

Let’s talk base my beauties. A good base is essential for any makeup routine; this sets the tone for the rest of your make up and can make or break a look. One of my favourite drug store foundations is the Maybelline Fit Me foundation and the Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless foundation. These foundations are a fantastic dupe for the Nars sheerglow foundation-another high end favourite in my collection.

I’ve been using the Maybelline fit me foundation for over a year now. The sleek glass bottle with it’s black lid is quite chic for a drugstore foundation and holds 30ml of product. It has a weightless creamy consistency and provides a sheer base which is build-able. The translucent base and lightweight pigments allow the skin's natural highs and lows to show through. This was my holiday foundation, my weekend foundation, my I’m getting ready really quickly but still need to look fabulous foundation. After a year it was my go to, therefore I was quite excited when I saw that Maybelline had released a matte and poreless foundation. I purchased this straight away to compare the coverage with the original fit me foundation. The Maybelline Fit Me Matte & Poreless foundation has been designed for normal to oily skin. It claims to have blurring micro powders which refines pores while shine is being absorbed for a natural matte finish. It fits both skin and texture for natural finish and poreless looking skin.

Colour matching

There are 6 shades available in the Maybelline Fit me foundation. I use Natural beige in the number 220. The Maybelline fit Me Matte and Poreless foundation is available in 18 shades and again I use the shade natural beige in 220. This shade has a perfect yellow undertone which blends seamlessly into my skin. Unlike other drugstore foundations I can be wearing this foundation all day and the colour will remain true to when it was first applied. It does not oxidise on the skin so it does not make you look grey by the end of the day.

Which one should I purchase?

If you prefer a dewy base and a natural coverage that leaves skin the way, it was meant to be then the Maybelline fit me foundation is for you.

If you prefer a flawless base with a matte coverage, then the Maybelline Fit Me Matte and Poreless foundation is for you. This foundation is slightly thicker in coverage and can be built up for a heavier base. Nevertheless you can use a small amount to create a sheer base.

How to apply the foundations

  1. Apply with your fingers, the warmth of your hands will help the foundation blend and move easily.

  2. Apply with a damp beauty blender

  3. Apply with a kabuki brush

I completely agree with all the claims made by Maybelline- if there’s one foundation that does exactly what it says on the tin this would be it! Both of these are my go to drug store foundations and in most cases trumps my high end foundations because they let my skin breathe whilst giving me flawless coverage.
