Stick it with Make Up For Ever

Whenever I hear the words 'stick foundation' I shudder slightly. The thought of something so heavy and cakey on my skin never appealed to me and I would naturally be drawn to a liquid foundation which would give me coverage but still allow my skin to breathe.

However stick foundations have come a long way. One of my favourite stick foundations is the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD stick foundation. I purchased this back in April as I knew the wedding season was fast approaching which meant I would be attending numerous functions and events. I wanted more coverage on my skin which would last throughout the day/ night. I did my research and the one stick foundation that kept popping up on my radar was the Make Up For Ever Ultra HD stick foundation.

Application and texture

It has a creamy consistency which blends in seamlessly. It is pigmented which means you need a very small amount for a sheer base. However the beauty of this foundation is that you can build this foundation without it giving you that cakey feeling. I always use a damp beauty blender or my kabuki brush to make sure I buff the product into my skin. You can also use illuminators under this foundation which come through beautifully with this product.

This foundation has been specifically designed to give you a flawless complexion on camera. It claims to be completely invisible under the latest super focused 4K lens. I would agree that this foundation gives you a flawless finish in pictures- you can see this in images on my instagram. However in real life the smallest amount of product goes a long way and if it is not buffed into the skin properly it can start to gather in fine lines.

I would say I have normal to combination skin and my T-zone can get quite oily in the summer. It does give me a radiant finish but I have to ensure I powder my T-zone when I use this foundation.

Colour matching

The make up forever numbering colour system is a minefield! I suggest going into a store to get matched up but the fabulous thing is that there are approximately 21 shades in this foundation with a variety of under tones. My shade is Y375 Golden sand which has a yellow undertone. Most Debenham stores in the UK have a Make Up Forever concession and I purchased my foundation in the Bullring Branch in Birmingham.

Is it worth the hype?

You get 45g of product and as they are very pigmented a small amount goes a long way. However if you are prone to break outs ensure you clean the stick after every use, that is a given for any stick foundation and something you don’t have to worry about with liquid foundations. I would highly recommend this product, if you are looking for a fuller coverage and something that is camera friendly this is definitely for you my beauty!
